I am thinking about getting an ibook g4, since it comes in a pretty small size 11.2 width x 9.2 height, weighting 4.9 lbs? is it a good choice or what is your recommendation?

    Create a video blog

Yes, that would be a good choice, it will provide you with all you need to complete day to day tasks as well as many other power hungry things such as photo editing and gameplay.

First you need to follow some steps.

    make a budget
list what you NEED to do with the laptop
list the software needed for the above list
    find the minimum hardware requirements
find laptops that meet and best to exceed the minimum a little
    check budget

Iterate through the process until you get a good balance. If you need expensive apps like MS Office, find laptops that come with the software you need and you will save money. You will also benefit from same company support for hardware and thier installed apps.

IBM compatibles have a VAST majority of the market so the skills you’ll learn will be valuable unless you are going into graphics, where Apple still is holding on.

I would recommend for a presario or if you need some business apps like MS Office, look at the business class machines.

HP and Compaqs, now same company, are VERY well built and come with GREAT support. Many Dell cases are so flimsy you need to pick them up with two hands or they will fail in about a year from bending.

Once you find a choice or more, try to get your hands on them at a retail store to make sure you like the keyboard etc. Make sure the case is hard and does nnot give easily. Then look for the best price.

The HP/Compaqs usually come with a 7×24x365 phone support for a year AND a year hardware warranty. If you plan to keep it for three years I would think about an extended warranty.

My Compaq Presario R3000 series (desktop replacement) was only $800 on sale so I passed on the extra warranty. But I’m not afraid to take it apart.

I am not a big fan of Macs. There is a reason why that Microsoft almost monopolizes Operating Systems. As for the size, that is very small. It is up to the user if they have no problem staring into a small screen. If the keyboard is too small you can always connect a USB keyboard to it. If you will need to run it off the battery alot, then smaller is the way to go, because it uses less power.

As for brand, I would go with Dell. Make sure you go under the college student link to get a discount on your purchase.
