Are there restrictions about purchasing a laptop in the USA that will be used permanently in Canada?

I am an American who has been shopping around for a HP Pavilion laptop for a close friend who lives in Canada. When I look at USA web sites, the model numbers end with US. When I look at Canadian web sites, the model numbers end in CA. Does this mean US’ models are restricted for the USA and CA models are restricted for Canada?
